Creating inclusion through emoji

The pastors at the church I attend are great at using inclusive language. Using both “he” and “she” as characters in story telling; using “spouse or partner” when talking about couples; etc.

It’s amazing what a difference those simple steps do to create a welcoming and inclusive space and place.

I recently came across a “lesser known” trick with the iPhones and included emoji…

They have included a more racially-diverse set of characters…

They have also included emoji couples who are male-female, male-male and female-female.

Something worth keeping in mind, if you use emoji a lot…
